If your home falls within the Gatwick noise contour boundary across Surrey, Sussex or Kent, you may be eligible for up to £4,300 plus VAT towards acoustic glazing for your windows and exterior doors. The scheme has been running since 2014 and was extended in 2021 to cover an additional 985 homes — including entire roads and villages along the flight path.

S&K Glazing is a specialist acoustic glazing installer for the wider Gatwick area. We work both within the scheme (supplying the eligible glazing package) and beyond it (premium upgrades, ineligible rooms, properties outside the boundary). Below is what's included in the scheme, what's not, and how we can help.

What the scheme covers — and what it doesn't

Included

  • Replacement double glazing for primary windows in habitable rooms
  • Replacement exterior doors (front, back, patio) where they affect noise ingress
  • Bedrooms and living rooms — the rooms classed as habitable space
  • Acoustic-grade glazing units meeting the scheme's noise specification
  • Properties in residential use within the noise contour boundary
  • Single contribution up to £4,300 plus VAT per eligible dwelling

Not included

  • Conservatories (not classed as habitable living space)
  • Interior doors and interior windows
  • Secondary glazing of doors (deemed ineffective for door noise reduction)
  • Kitchens and bathrooms (not classed as habitable rooms under the scheme)
  • Commercial premises — offices, retail, workshops, and mixed-use buildings' commercial portions
  • Properties built after the relevant qualifying date and additions completed after the cut-off date
  • Properties outside the published noise contour boundary

How S&K Glazing fits in

Gatwick Airport appoints its own scheme delivery supplier through procurement — historically this has been a single large national installer. S&K Glazing operates as a specialist independent acoustic glazing installer for the same region, working with homeowners in three situations:

  • Beyond the scheme allowance: Upgrading to triple glazing, higher-spec acoustic laminate, or extending coverage to rooms not included under the scheme. The scheme contribution covers the eligible work; we install the upgrade at competitive rates.
  • Outside the boundary: Homes just outside the noise contour still affected by aircraft noise — we supply acoustic glazing privately, with no scheme involvement, at fair fixed-price quotes.
  • Properties the scheme doesn't cover: Conservatories, mixed-use buildings, post-cutoff additions, commercial premises — we supply acoustic specifications independently.

Our acoustic glazing specification

Our standard acoustic glazing achieves Rw 38-42 dB reduction. Premium specifications using asymmetric laminated panels achieve up to 52 dB reduction — equivalent to converting a jet engine overhead into a whisper indoors. Specifications include:

  • Asymmetric panel thicknesses (e.g. 6mm + 4mm) to break frequency resonance
  • Laminated PVB interlayers with enhanced acoustic dampening
  • Argon-filled cavities (12-16mm) tuned for acoustic plus thermal performance
  • Warm-edge spacers and high-grade gaskets to eliminate sound bridges
  • Optional triple glazing for the most demanding acoustic environments

How to find out if you're eligible

The fastest way is to check the Gatwick interactive noise insulation scheme map on the Gatwick Airport website. Enter your postcode — eligible properties are shown within the published boundary. If you're outside the boundary but still affected by aircraft noise, contact us directly and we'll arrange a free acoustic assessment.

What our process looks like

  1. Eligibility check — confirm your address is within the scheme boundary using Gatwick's map.
  2. Free acoustic survey — we visit, measure your windows and doors, identify the rooms eligible under the scheme, and discuss any upgrades you'd like.
  3. Fixed-price quote — quote within 24 hours, separated clearly into "scheme-eligible" and "upgrade" portions so you can see exactly where the funding applies.
  4. Installation — typically 1-2 days for a standard 3-bedroom house. We work room-by-room to minimise disruption.
  5. Documentation — full installation certification, FENSA registration, and 10-year insurance-backed warranty supplied as standard.
Common questions

Gatwick scheme — your questions answered

Eligibility is based on whether your property falls within Gatwick's published noise contour boundary across Surrey, Sussex and Kent. The boundary is based on a 60dBA noise contour, extended 15km east and west to capture the full flight-path approach. Check Gatwick's interactive map by postcode.
Up to £4,300 plus VAT per eligible home, towards replacement double glazing for windows and exterior doors. The allowance is based on industry-agreed rates between Gatwick and their appointed supplier.
The scheme is delivered by Gatwick's appointed supplier. If you want to use S&K Glazing instead — for premium upgrades, faster turnaround, or specialist heritage work — we can supply the work privately at competitive rates, often delivering more than the scheme allowance would have funded.
Conservatories and kitchens fall outside the scheme. If aircraft noise is bothering you in these rooms, we install acoustic-grade replacement glazing privately — separate from the scheme but at fair fixed prices.
Generally no. The scheme applies to new work going forward. If you've previously paid for acoustic glazing, contact Gatwick directly to ask about any retrospective allowances — but it's rarely available.
