London City Airport noise insulation grants

London City Airport operates a three-tier Sound Insulation Scheme. Tier 1 (widest area, 57dB LAeq,16h contour) is eligible for works achieving an average 25dB+ sound reduction. Single-glazed properties receive secondary glazing or thermal double glazing plus acoustic ventilators. The scheme has an intermediate tier (63dB LAeq,16h) and the highest tier for the noisiest properties. Properties are re-inspected every 10 years.

How S&K Glazing can help with the London City Airport scheme

S&K Glazing is not an officially appointed installer for the London City Airport Sound Insulation Scheme (Three-Tier) — that scheme uses its own appointed installers. Our role is to help you in three ways: (1) free eligibility check — tell us your postcode and we'll confirm whether you fall inside the scheme boundary; (2) guidance on how to apply — we explain the application process, what documents you need, and what to expect; (3) private installation for work the scheme doesn't fund — properties outside the boundary, premium acoustic upgrades (Rw 48-52dB triple glazing) beyond the standard spec, non-habitable rooms the scheme excludes, and commercial premises. If you're eligible for funded works, we'll point you to the official route. If you're not — or you want better than the scheme provides — we're ready to quote.

Frequently asked questions

What does London City Airport's Tier 1 scheme cover?

Properties in the 57dB LAeq,16h contour. Single-glazed properties get either secondary glazing or thermal double glazing plus acoustic ventilators. Works achieve a 25dB+ average sound reduction.

Why are post-April 2016 properties excluded?

London City's policy excludes properties whose planning permission was granted (and the property built) after 27 April 2016. Those planning permissions should have already required equivalent acoustic standards.

How often is the scheme reviewed?

Annually - LCY's independent acoustic consultants assess contours each year. Newly eligible properties are published in the Annual Performance Report each July.

Will my property be re-inspected?

Yes - previously-treated properties are re-inspected every 10 years to check insulation is still performing.

What if I'm in E16 or E14 but outside LCY's boundary?

We install private acoustic glazing across East London. Common: Rw 38-42dB acoustic double glazing or Rw 48-52dB premium triple glazing.
