Manchester's Sound Insulation Grant Scheme has been running continuously since 1972 - the longest-running airport noise insulation programme in the UK. The current scheme operates under the 2024-2028 Noise Action Plan, formally adopted by DEFRA in December 2024.
S&K Glazing is not an officially appointed installer for the Sound Insulation Grant Scheme (SIGS) — that scheme uses its own appointed installers. Our role is to help you in three ways: (1) free eligibility check — tell us your postcode and we'll confirm whether you fall inside the scheme boundary; (2) guidance on how to apply — we explain the application process, what documents you need, and what to expect; (3) private installation for work the scheme doesn't fund — properties outside the boundary, premium acoustic upgrades (Rw 48-52dB triple glazing) beyond the standard spec, non-habitable rooms the scheme excludes, and commercial premises. If you're eligible for funded works, we'll point you to the official route. If you're not — or you want better than the scheme provides — we're ready to quote.

The scheme generally requires standard brick construction. Timber-frame, steel-frame, or non-traditional construction may be excluded. Property must be built before the qualifying scheme date.
Private acoustic glazing is the alternative. Cheadle (SK8) sees high demand for premium specifications - we typically install Rw 42-48dB acoustic double glazing or Rw 52dB triple glazing.
The SIGS is residential only. Commercial acoustic glazing (hotels, offices, schools) is delivered privately. S&K provides commercial acoustic specifications across the Manchester Airport corridor.
